Spring has (almost) sprung! Why not get a head start on registering
your boats, ATVs, or even a last-minute snow machine to keep you on
the go? Continue reading to learn more about off-highway vehicle
registration and when you should register.
Expanded DMV office hours!
Starting Monday, March 4th we have expanded our hours to Monday – Friday 8am to 6pm!
Snowmachines, ATVs & Other Off-Highway Vehicles Registrations:
While most off-highway vehicles are not titled in Alaska, they are required to be
registered unless they are operated solely on private property. To register a new or used off-highway vehicle bring in a bill of sale, certificate of origin, or purchase order from a dealership.
Fun fact: off-highway vehicles are registered in seasons! You may register an off-
highway vehicle for one to three seasons. A season is two years and runs from October 1st on the first year to September 30th of the second year.
Boat Registrations:
All boats primarily operated in Alaska are required to be registered unless specifically exempted. Boats longer than 24 feet are required to be titled unless documented by the USCG. Boats that are 24 feet or less have the option of getting a title which can be done by letting your DMV representative know that you would like to start the titling process at the time of registering or re-registering the boat.
If your boat is 24 feet or less you will need to know the AK number, HIN number, or the boat will need to have been previously registered in your name. We can assist you with filling out the forms to get you out on the water quickly!
Boat Trailers:
Boat trailers are treated as any other type of trailer or vehicle. If you just purchased a boat and trailer, we will need a title for the trailer signed off by the seller to transfer ownership. To renew or replace registration, plates, or tags the trailer will need to have been previously titled and registered in your name. Did you know that trailers of any age can be permanently registered with a Z tab?
